Brawley, CA –Comité Cívico del Valle convenes its 6th annual Environmental Health Leadership Summit on November 21, 2015 at Brawley Union High School. The Summit brings the local community together with Federal and State officials, public interest groups, public health experts and environmental justice advocates to find solutions to community’s air quality and related public health issues within the Imperial Valley.
Assembly Member Eduardo Garcia, Imperial County Supervisor, Ryan Kelly and Mayor George A. Nava will join Administrator Matthew Tejada, director of the Office of Environmental Justice of the US Environmental Protection Agency, Bruce Wilcox of the California Natural Resources Agency, and many other environmental health experts in the day-long event. Community members will have opportunities to network with leaders and experts as well as gain access to resources, strategies, and tools.

The summit will feature discussions on such topics as pollution in the Salton Sea, film as a tool for environmental justice, regional air quality programs, health effects associated with pesticide exposure, and tools to improve the quality of life for families living with asthma.
Attendees will enjoy live dance and musical performances, an exhibit from a local artist, and catered lunch.

Comité Cívico del Valle (CCV) was founded in 1987 in Imperial County, California, its mission is to improve access to healthcare, information, and prevention programs to low-income, underrepresented, and underserved community members in Imperial County through education, capacity building, and civic participation. Resident education and participation is the most efficient model for growing civic interest in community well-being.
