How to calculate years of life saved by reducing particulate matter in your city or neighborhood

Source: New York Times

A few days ago, the New York Times published an excellent article, The Connection Between Cleaner Air and Longer Lives, which included this chart.

This was a very important article for many reasons. Chief among them, in my opinion, is the value of the methodology they used for community groups.

I think their Overview on Methodology for Clean Air Study provides a road map citizen scientists could use to show the health cost of dirty air in their community, and the years of life residents would gain from cleaning it up.
