Miami port expansion kills endangered coral, as environmentalists feared

For years, international trade economists have said that dredging the Port of Miami to deepen it for mega container ships is unlikely to generate the business projected by boosters, and environmentalists have said it would destroy the beautiful coral reefs that are so important to the State’s #1 industry, tourism.

It’s too soon to evaluate the economist’s warnings, but the environmentalists were right.  The project is destroying endangered Staghorn Coral, and causing other damage.
