The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released the draft of their latest assessment of climate change on Sunday. The report emphasized that climate change disproportionately affects the vulnerable, is already affecting the poor, threatens our security, and that we must take action now.
The best coverage I have seen:
New U.N. Report: Climate Change Risks Destabilizing Human Society, Slate
Climate change report: five key points, The Guardian
U.N. climate panel: Governments, businesses need to take action now against growing risks, Washington Post
The report touched on a topic covered recently in this blog – the opportunity to improve environmental health AND achieve fast wins against climate change by reducing diesel exhaust particulate matter:
Reviews have concluded that abatement of particle emissions including Black Carbon represents an opportunity to achieve both climate mitigation and
health benefits….there would be climate (and health) benefits in circumstances where BC is emitted without many other cooling aerosols, as with diesel and kerosene combustion.
