Fighting Noise Pollution: A Public Health Strategy

Check out this month’s issue of Environmental Health Perspectives – you might find the article “Fighting Noise Pollution: A Public Health Strategy” valuable.

This brief article lays out the health risks of noise pollution, especially during sleeping hours, and suggests that action should be taken to “identify hot spots for further study and remediation. The necessary data could be collected relatively inexpensively through crowdsourcing using people’s cell phones”.

The KC-area Diesel Health Project is planning on beginning hotspot Particulate Matter monitoring sometime soon, and will investigate possibilities of adding sound-level monitoring.

Has your group done sound level monitoring along roadways and near freight hubs?

If so, please comment here, let us know what tools and methods you used, and what you found!
