California’s Comite Civico Del Valle “Stands with Kern” & prepares for the HUGE Imperial Valley Environmental Leadership Summit on Saturday, November 21

Moving Forward Network member Comite Civico Del Valle (CCV) does great work in and around their home base of Brawley, California, in the heart of the Imperial Valley, a few hours east of San Diego. Brawley is about 20 miles north of the border town of Calexico, and just south of the Salton Sea.

Last week CCV partnered with Brawley High School students and a great group of environmental organizations in Bakersfield to protest a zoning ordinance to fast-track oil permitting in Kern County. For more information, check out the photos below, and visit

In about a week, they are co-hosting an even bigger event, the Environmental Leadership Summit 2015, to be held in Brawley on November 21.

The speaker list is very impressive.  It includes environmental and political leaders from across the state,  Matthew S. Tejada, Director of the EPA Office of Environmental Justice, several Moving Forward Network participants, and many other leaders in the environmental health and justice movement.
