Thanks to good work by the Port of Long Beach, which spent millions to test the technology, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has approved the use of an innovative low emissions technology alternative to shore power – the Advanced Maritime Emission Control System (AMECS), by the firm Advanced Cleanup Technologies Inc.
This system will allow ships that do not have the capability to use shore power to berth at the Port of Long Beach without emitting huge amounts of air pollution.
