Port truckers have gained two key victories, but the pain of deregulation persists

This is an excellent tale of the long slide of the trucking industry from a business that offered decent long-term jobs to a ‘race to the bottom’ industry, which imposes many of its costs on the drivers and the public.

Not surprisingly, the article’s author Paul Rosenberg cites one of the sharpest observers of the industry, Rutgers labor studies professor David Bensman.

The Bensman study he references, Port Trucking Down the Low Road: A Sad Story of Deregulation, is a must-read for anyone who wants a solid understanding of how we got where we are.
